Semtech و Swarm يطلقان شبكة أقمار صناعية بتقنية LoRa®
تدمج Swarm Technologies تقنية LoRaWAN في شبكة أقمارها الصناعية.
Semtech announces that Swarm Technologies, a global satellite network developer, has completed the integration of Semtech’s LoRaWAN-based devices into its communication solutions, enabling signal reception and transmission to a network of satellites in low Earth orbit.
“Since LoRaWAN technology developed by Semtech is suitable for long-range, low-power signal transmission and works with a large number of compatible applications, this opens up new opportunities for IoT use cases in industries such as logistics, agriculture, smart machines, and energy,” said Ben Longmier, CTO and co-founder of Swarm. “We look forward to starting a joint project with Semtech based on LoRaWAN technology. This will allow us to globally provide affordable IoT device connectivity at previously unattainable coverage levels.”
Swarm integrates LoRaWAN technology into its satellite network based on VHF (Very High Frequency) data transmission both from ground to satellite and vice versa. The satellite network is currently operational, consisting of 72 active satellites covering 100% of the Earth’s surface. Swarm also plans to expand the satellite network to 150 units by the end of 2021, which the company estimates will reduce signal-to-ground transmission latency to less than one minute. Data transmission modems built into LoRaWAN devices interacting with satellites will be capable of reliable data transmission from anywhere on Earth 24 hours a day.
“Semtech and Swarm are on course for joint work on IoT market applications that require less data for communication and fill gaps in the existing satellite network market,” said Marc Pegulu, VP of IoT Marketing at Semtech. “Our joint development has allowed us to offer the market a reliable and affordable communication system that provides connectivity for LoRaWAN sensors, equipment, and other devices on sea and land.”
